It is said that truth is the first casualty of a war. Its latest example is the current war going on between Tel Aviv and Tehran in which both the warring countries are claiming to have inflicted big losses on the other. Who is correct and who is exaggerating will be known when the dust will settle down in due course.
Both these countries are well equipped with the latest weaponry and the lurking danger
is that in case the war prolonged use of nuclear arsenal can touch off third world war. Among the super powers sitting in the UN if Moscow in cahoots with Beijing put its foot down and these two countries use their influence to immediately make the warring countries agree on a ceasefire the humanity can be saved from utter destruction.
The US because of its open support of Israel is not going to be trusted by Tehran in any table talks aimed at defusing the current boiling situation.
It would be a tragedy of the first magnitude if the UN, like the league of Nations also fails in maintaining the world peace.
POST SCRIPT:
Signs of rift between PPP and PML N are becoming more pronounced by the day and if the top echelon of these two political parties failed to paper over the cracks in the edifice of their coalition, the possibility of split in the present coalition government cannot be ruled out altogether.
Lately, a steep drop has been noticed in the level of underground water in the country which requires urgent steps from the authorities aimed at enforcing rationing of water. A massive media campaign need to be launched in all languages forewarning the populace to refrain from wasting water by adopting measures through which minimum possible use of water consumption is made in their daily chores and those found wasting it are challaned and fined heavily. Side by side effective steps should be taken by taking the religious bigwigs of the country into confidence for launching an effective population planning programme like the one executed by China in the not too distant past for controlling population explosion in the country.
