Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has emphasized the urgent need for a fairer international taxation system at the recent G20 finance ministers’ meeting in Durban, South Africa.
“I emphasized the importance of building a fair, effective, and stable international taxation system,” she said in an Instagram post on Friday.
She noted that international tax policy should not be seen solely through a fiscal lens, but also as an issue of global justice — one that ensures all countries have equal opportunities to grow.
Developing nations, she added, deserve an equal right to participate in cross-border economic activities taking place in their jurisdictions.
“Indonesia supports the Two-Pillar Solution, and we have already begun implementing it. However, our work is far from finished,” she said.
Indrawati also stressed that the G20 must ensure no country is left behind in the face of an increasingly complex global tax environment.
In addition to the G20, she highlighted the crucial role of institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and United Nations (UN) in helping developing countries strengthen capacity and maintain fiscal sovereignty.
“Tax is not just about national revenues. It is about shaping a more equal and sustainable future for the world,” she affirmed.
Indrawati attended the G20 meeting alongside Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo.
At the forum, she reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to open and mutually beneficial dialogue on trade and investment cooperation to create jobs, spur innovation, raise productivity, and bring shared benefits to all.
