The former JI chief Maulvi Siraj ul Haque hit the right nail on the head when he said the other day that almost all political parties are present in the corridor of powers and they want to upstage one another in monetary corruption, horse trading and in all other modes of corruption in which a quick buck is made. The lust for money is a common feature In all of them. There is no gainsaying the fact that politics has, lately become the most profitable profession in this country. Another notable feature of our politics is spread of dynastic political culture in the country. Head of every political party barring an odd one has wangled appointment of his next of kin on key hierarchal position within his party in order to ensure that in case he bites the dust the leadership of his party should remain in his family.
POST SCRIPT:
It is unfortunate that politics has crept into the field of sports also which used to be free of it till recently Cricket matches between India and Pakistan are a recent example which has left a very bad taste in the mouth of cricket fans of this country.
A couple of days back the speaker of the Panjab assembly had very rightly suspended those MPAs who had indulged in hooliganism on the floor of the House giving it a look of fish market . That daring act was appreciated by all those sections of society who expect emergence of a political culture in the country based on respect and tolerance for all points of views. What a pity that our parliamentarians still use brawn instead of brain and like the Bourbons have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing since the time when they had broken the skull of a deputy speaker of the then East Pakistan Assembly on which Field Marshal had sardonically said that it seems parliamentary democracy doesn’t suit the genius of our people.
