MSME ministry prepares app to support community businesses

by WNAM:

Natuna ( WNAM MONITORING):  Indonesia’s Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is developing a digital platform aimed at streamlining services for small business owners across the country.

The app, called SAPA UMKM, will integrate a range of services, including financing, marketing, and business legality support, to boost MSME development nationwide.

Ministry Secretary Arif Rahman Hakim said on Friday that the platform is still under development and is expected to launch its first version in November 2025.

He noted that the app was conceived as a more efficient alternative to traditional survey-based data collection, which is costly and provides outdated information.

“With SAPA UMKM, data will update automatically every time the app is used, offering real-time insights into the needs and activities of small business operators,” Arif said during a visit to Natuna District in the Riau Islands.

He added that dynamic data will help both central and regional governments, as well as related institutions, better connect with business actors in their areas.

The platform is expected to simplify government outreach, improve service delivery, and ensure more targeted support for MSMEs.

Arif emphasized that this digital innovation is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to overcome key challenges in the community business ecosystem.

“In 2022, we conducted a national survey of micro and small enterprises and collected by-name, by-address data for about 30 million business actors,” he said.

“But the data was static and quickly became outdated. That’s why we are now developing SAPA UMKM,” he added.

The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s push to digitize public services and improve economic inclusion for MSMEs, which contribute significantly to the country’s employment and GDP.
