ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has decisively secured its legal and copyright rights over its official initialism and logo after a trademark opposition case that had earlier been challenged by Ibadat International University, Islamabad. In a ruling reinforcing the earlier decision issued by the Trademark Registry earlier this year, the Registry has once again upheld IIUI’s opposition thereby reaffirming IIUI’s exclusive rights to its institutional identity.
The ruling confirms that the initialism “IIUI,” representing the International Islamic University Islamabad, is the exclusive legal property of the University. It prohibits Ibadat International University, Islamabad, from using the same or any similar mark, thereby safeguarding IIUI’s name, insignia, and institutional distinction. It also prevents any institution affiliated with Ibadat International University, Islamabad, from using IIUI’s initialism or logo for publicity purposes.
This outcome marks a major milestone in IIUI’s ongoing commitment to protecting its intellectual property and reputation. It strengthens the University’s legal standing and sets an important precedent for higher education institutions across Pakistan on matters of trademark and institutional credibility.
