TEHRAN ( WNAM MONITORING): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called for Muslim unity and dialogue after Pakistan and Afghanistan reached a 48-hour ceasefire following deadly border clashes.
Pezeshkian said that enemies continually seek to create discord among Muslim nations to weaken them.
He made the remarks during a session outlining Iran’s position on the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pezeshkian said Muslim countries reject conflict and division, describing such unrest as the result of “plots by enemies and international Zionism.”
He said the renewed tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have raised serious concern among regional nations, including Iran, which shares borders with both.
Muslim nations with shared roots and culture hold an “unbreakable bond of faith and culture” and must work together to advance peace, justice, and progress, he said.
Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran would use all available resources to reduce tensions, promote dialogue, and strengthen ties between the two neighbors.
“Dialogue and the promotion of fraternal relations will help ease tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” he said.
He added that the region needs peace, cohesion, and cooperation more than ever, expressing confidence that both governments and peoples will resolve their differences through wisdom.
Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to a temporary 48-hour ceasefire on Wednesday after fresh border clashes left dozens dead and injured.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said the truce took effect at 6:00 p.m. local time, offering a short pause amid concerns that recurring skirmishes could trigger more violence.
