WNAM REPORT: Uzatom Agency and Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre (Russia) have signed an agreement on strategic partnership in the field of peaceful uses of atomic energy.

The document was signed during the Uzbekistan delegation’s visit to Mosсow led by Azim Akhmedkhadjayev, Director of the Uzatom Agency. During the visit, the delegation met with the Kurchatov Institute leadership and participated in several working meetings.

During the talks, the parties discussed prospects for long-term cooperation to develop Uzbekistan’s national nuclear potential and to implement advanced nuclear technologies jointly. Special attention was paid to the potential for the efficient and safe use of peaceful nuclear energy in the economy, medicine, and the pursuit of a sustainable future.Such priority areas, as exploring the possibilities of using small modular and mobile nuclear power plants, developing nuclear medicine and radioisotope production, using synchrotron radiation and neutron sources in scientific research, as well as conducting research in the fields of plasma physics, thermonuclear fusion, and high-energy physics, were identified within the framework of the cooperation.

During the visit, the Uzatom Agency delegation also gained an overview of the Kurchatov Institute’s research infrastructure, including the scientific and educational center for nuclear medicine, the Tokamak T-15MD, pilot production of superconducting materials, and the Kurchatov synchrotron radiation source. It was noted that these infrastructures serve as a solid foundation for the practical implementation of joint initiatives.

Following the visit, an agreement on scientific-technical cooperation was signed, which, as noted, takes nuclear collaboration between the two countries to a new level. According to the Agency’s information service, the signed agreement will strengthen Uzbekistan’s efforts in innovative development, environmentally friendly energy, and the adoption of promising technologies.
