It is a pity that after advent of TV in this country, the idiot box is being given too much importance and step motherly treatment is being meted out to Radio Pakistan without any cogent rhyme and reason which has been a very effective medium .
One wonders why newly established radio stations in many cities of the country were closed and sacrificed at the altar of FM radio?
Today there is a dire need to reach out to radio listeners in many central Asian countries with whom we have established ties, besides, nailing the canard of our enemy countries against us for which strong high powered transmitters are needed so that our broadcasts in the languages of the people of these counties are audible to the population living there/. Today broadcasters with vision like Bokhari brothers are needed to head Radio Pakistan and put it back on the rails. It was wrong to discontinue its external services program instead of broad basing it. All India Radio is puffing out a lot of venom against us which need to be countered. The poisonous and misleading propaganda broadcasts by Radio Kabul against Pakistan needs to be effectively replied.
The monthly radio journal Ahang also needs to be widely circulated by improving its get up and contents.
Such programs need to be aired which catered to the taste of all groups of people and provide up to date information and knowledge to all and sundry.
