WNAM Monitoring: A U.S. armored Army unit arrived in Korea last month as the new rotational force to operate in the country for nine months, the U.S. military stationed here has said.
Equipment and personnel of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment arrived in the country late last month to replace the existing 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division, according to the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division headquartered in Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek, 60 kilometers south of Seoul.
It marks the first time for the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, which operates the Stryker armored vehicle, to be deployed to the country. An official unit transition ceremony will be held at the end of this month.
“The 3rd Cavalry Regiment is a historically battle-hardened organization, and I look forward to seeing them train alongside our 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division soldiers and ROK allies,” Maj. Gen. William D. Taylor, commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division, was quoted as saying.
The combined division was launched in 2015 to improve the allies’ joint operations.
