WNAM REPORT: The ITB Berlin International Tourism Fair hosted the UN Tourism Ministers’ Summit, organized by the UN Tourism. The event focused on transforming the potential of emerging tourism destinations into sustainable and competitive markets.

The event brought together the tourism ministers of UN Tourism member states and served as a platform for sharing practical experiences and developing strategies to ensure sustainable growth in the industry, increase economic returns, and preserve cultural and natural heritage.

The discussion focused on improving tourism management models, eliminating interdepartmental barriers, attracting investments, developing human capital, and training personnel in the context of a transforming labor market.

The participants also discussed strengthening public-private partnerships and diversifying tourism destinations as tools for increasing sustainability and competitiveness.

The Chairman of the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Akkulov, took part in the summit. In his speech, he presented information on reforms being implemented in the tourism sector, strategic investment priorities, and measures to develop regional destinations. Special attention was paid to creating a favorable institutional environment, modernizing infrastructure, improving the quality of tourism services, and involving local communities in industry development.

The ministerial format of the meeting enabled the development of coordinated approaches to tourism development amid the industry’s global transformation. The ITB Berlin platform traditionally brings together key players in the global tourism market and serves as a space for developing solutions focused on long-term development, investment sustainability, and strengthening tourism’s contribution to national economies.
