WNAM REPORT: The Indonesian government has received a 30-hectare land grant from Lippo Group to develop around 140,000 vertical housing units under the 3 Million Homes program.

Hashim Djojohadikusumo, head of the government’s housing task force, attended the handover ceremony at the development site in Cikarang, Bekasi District, West Java, on Sunday.

“Demand for habitable housing in Indonesia remains huge. Based on government data, between 9 and 15 million people do not own homes,” he said.

He added that around 27 million Indonesians currently live in uninhabitable housing.

Hashim described the 3 Million Homes program as a strategic effort to reduce the housing backlog while stimulating economic growth and improving people’s welfare.

He noted that the housing sector generates significant multiplier effects, with more than 180 businesses typically involved in building a single housing unit.

The government also plans to expand the program to other regions, including 45 hectares of land designated for vertical housing in Depok, West Java.

Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait praised Lippo Group for supporting the government’s housing program through the land grant.

“Beyond a reflection of commitment, this grant was born from a tremendous sense of togetherness and empathy to help low-income citizens,” he said.

According to the minister, the government will develop the site in stages to construct around 140,000 housing units.

Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani said the ceremony also served as an initial assessment of the construction site.

“Providing habitable and affordable housing for low-income citizens is one of the national priorities,” he said.

“We aim to ensure proper planning for this residential area through collaboration between the government, Danantara, state enterprises, and the private sector,” he added.

Lippo Group CEO James Riady said the land grant supports President Prabowo Subianto’s mission to address the national housing backlog by improving access to housing for low-income communities.
