WNAM MONITORING: Azerbaijan is determined to make a serious and significant contribution to the program, agenda, and strategic vision of the D-8 organization, Secretary General Sohail Mahmood told Report.

According to him, Azerbaijan’s accession as a full member to the organization in 2025 has brought new dynamics and a positive impulse to the organization’s activities:

“Important issues across various fields – urban planning, tourism, media, and other areas – are being discussed in the city of Baku. Azerbaijan has made very significant contributions in these fields. I would especially like to express my deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership, first and foremost President Ilham Aliyev. Thanks to his leadership, Azerbaijan’s membership process in the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation was successfully completed, and the significance of this membership was particularly emphasized.”

He noted that the expansion of the D-8 makes him very happy:

“Last year, Azerbaijan came forward with another important initiative, announcing the establishment of three ‘centers of excellence’: These centers will cover the fields of energy, transport, and media. All three centers will be established in Azerbaijan and will serve to strengthen the organization’s activities in these key areas.

We will also participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Baku.”

“At the same time, Azerbaijan is actively working toward organizing other ministerial-level meetings on the energy sector. These events will be held in the coming months and throughout 2026. According to the plans, the mentioned centers of excellence will also begin operations in 2026.

Together with member states, we are ready to closely cooperate with Azerbaijan to advance our common goals,” the secretary general added.
