SHUSHA ( WNAM REPORT ): President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said Pakistan could play the most effective mediating role in any conflict involving the United States and Iran, while crediting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts to support peace and dialogue in the region.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from international media during the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, which has brought together more than 160 participants from 54 countries to discuss the media’s role in promoting peace and rebuilding public trust.
The 4th Shusha Global Media Forum opened on July 13 in Shusha, Azerbaijan, bringing together journalists, media leaders, policymakers, communication experts, and representatives of international organizations from around the world.
Speaking during an interactive session with global media representatives, President Ilham Aliyev said Pakistan could serve as the best mediator in tensions between the United States and Iran.
He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played an important role in promoting peace efforts and maintaining dialogue among regional stakeholders. He also described both leaders as his personal friends and acknowledged their contribution to regional stability.
The forum is being held under the theme, “The Mission of the Media in Promoting Peace: Restoring Truth and Rebuilding Trust.” More than 160 media representatives, experts, and government officials from 54 countries are attending the event. Participants include representatives from 30 international news agencies, over 60 media organizations, and around 10 international institutions and companies.
The gathering focuses on the role of journalism in supporting peace, addressing misinformation, and responding to changes brought by artificial intelligence in the media sector. Organizers say the event aims to strengthen cooperation among media organizations and encourage responsible reporting.
The opening session, titled “Peace building and Public Discourse Through the Media Lens,” examined how media can support dialogue and public engagement. Speakers discussed ways journalism can contribute to communication between communities and help reduce misunderstandings.
Another session focused on the impact of misinformation and explored how news organizations and public institutions can coordinate responses to inaccurate information. Experts shared views on improving verification processes and strengthening public confidence in news reporting.
Artificial intelligence remains a major topic throughout the forum. Discussions are examining its influence on content production, storytelling, audience engagement, and the future of digital communication. Participants are also reviewing ethical considerations linked to AI-driven platforms and online information sharing.
Several panel discussions are addressing post-conflict recovery, media diplomacy, media literacy, and international cooperation. Speakers are exploring how responsible reporting can support reconstruction efforts and help rebuild trust among societies affected by conflict.
The forum also features meetings of regional media alliances and discussions on the future of broadcasting, including the impact of emerging technologies on radio and digital media.
