President Zardari has hit the right nail on the head by advising the teachers’ community to focus on moral education of the students. In his address on the occasion of World’s teachers day recently he
underlined the need of Character building of the students. There is no denying the fact that primary education is very important part of education. Mention of two important anecdotes relating to the topic under discussion would not be out of place.
During the course of second world war Hitler used filthy language and four letter words in his speeches against Sir Winston Churchill. The British prime minister ignored them completely. One day when a newsman asked for his riposte to Hitler’s abuses against him he said it seems Hitler didn’t have good primary education. Dag Hammarskjold a very decent cool headed person was Secretary General of the UN. The then Soviet premier Nikitia Khureschev a hot headed person while addressing a session of Security Council lost his temper and used the word dog for the UN Secretary General. Now under the powers conferred by UN law he could have asked Sergeant in Arms of the UN to physically remove Khrushchev from the room of the said meeting but he exhibited astonishing sang froid and let bygones be bygones.
Later when a news man asked him as to why he didn’t take any action against the Soviet Premier for his highly objectionable behavior. Dag Hammarskjold said perhaps I am better educated.
Farsighted nations select the best of the best persons in the society in all aspects for posting as primary school teachers. It is imperative that no fanatic in any respect should be posted as a primary school teacher. Due precaution needs to be observed also that no immoral person gets selected as primary school teacher. Likewise, it should be ensured also at the time of their selection that no lunatic fringe as well as well as those persons who believe in sectarianism and parachocialism get entry into the cadre of primary teachers. In the West the primary school teachers are respected more than any segment of society because in their hand lie the future generation of the country.
