WNAM REPORT: The index, launched by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in 2022, evaluates countries on the readiness and effectiveness of their quality infrastructure systems in achieving sustainability goals.
By prioritising key areas such as standards implementation, conformity assessment, accreditation, metrology, and robust market surveillance, the UAE has created a framework that aligns seamlessly with international standards.
The nation has also achieved significant milestones in global standardisation leadership. In 2024, the UAE was elected to several prestigious international organisations, including the ISO Council and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The UAE also secured the presidency of the Standards and Metrology Institute for the Islamic Countries (SMIIC) for 2025-2027, reflecting its commitment to advancing innovation and excellence in quality infrastructure.
Farah Al Zarooni, Chairman of the National Committee for Quality Infrastructure, noted that over 27,000 national standards have been implemented to drive local industry growth and facilitate international trade, positioning the UAE as a regional and global leader in sustainable development.
