WNAM REPORT: In March 2025, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Sikela, is scheduled to visit Turkmenistan to discuss the development of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor).
According to the EU Delegation in Turkmenistan, the EU will continue to support the development of this corridor, with a particular focus on improving regional trade and logistics efficiency.
“2024 was a landmark year for EU-Turkmenistan cooperation. One of the most notable achievements was the progress made in developing the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor, a key priority for both parties. The EU supported the modernization of the Turkmenbashi-Turkmenabat Railway, the implementation of the Electronic Consignment Note (e-CMR) System, and the establishment of a logistics center near the border with Kazakhstan,” the delegation’s statement says.
These initiatives, part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy, are designed to enhance regional trade and streamline logistics efficiency.
Moreover, in the field of green energy and climate action, the EU launched the “EU for a Green Turkmenistan” initiative, which included pilot projects to reduce methane emissions and treat drainage water using algae-based technology.
Earlier, it was reported that from January to November 2024, cargo turnover along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route increased by 63% having reached 4.1 million tons. Container transportations augmented by 2.6 times reaching 50,500 TEUs.
