WNAM REPORT: Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has asked the young generation in Indonesia to adapt and keep pace with technological developments, such as artificial intelligence (AI), but not to the point of becoming dependent on them.
“We must not be left behind, we must adapt (to new technologies). But we have to remember that AI will not replace humans,” he said while reviewing the implementation of the national digital AI program at Jakarta 66 Senior Public High School on Wednesday.
Launched in collaboration with the largest AI community in Indonesia, AICO, the program is part of the government’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation in the education sector through the use of AI.
At Jakarta 66 Senior Public High School, which is among the schools that are providing AI-based facilities, VP Gibran advised students to be wise in using this technology.
He said that AI can help increase productivity and creativity as well as hone students’ abilities in solving problems in lessons.
However, he asked students not to rely entirely on AI by continuing to study the formulas taught by teachers so that they can understand concepts thoroughly.
“This is not a shortcut; you still have to try and use the formulas (taught by teachers),” he emphasized
Furthermore, the Vice President said that even though AI has extraordinary intelligence, it will not be able to replace humans.
However, those who are reluctant to learn and adapt to AI will be left behind by those who are able to utilize it.
According to Gibran, AI is only a tool to understand concepts and build critical thinking patterns.
“AI will not replace humans, but humans who do not want to use AI, who do not want to adapt, who do not want to develop, will later be defeated by those who utilize AI (wisely),” he said.
