WNAM MONITORING: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a phone conversation, during which Prime Minister Sharif invited President Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to visit Pakistan at their convenience, as the official media of Turkmenistan reported on Monday.
During the conversation, both leaders exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the Oraza Bayram holiday and discussed the current state of bilateral relations. Prime Minister Sharif also conveyed greetings from Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari.
The two leaders noted the successful development of cooperation between their countries in various fields, including political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and energy sectors. They paid special attention to the implementation of large transnational infrastructure projects, particularly the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India gas pipeline, as well as projects to create power transmission lines and optical fiber communication.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s interest in further strengthening partnership relations with Turkmenistan and expressed support for Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” within the framework of the UN.
The two countries established diplomatic relations on May 10, 1992.
