WNAM MONITORING: From 2015 to the first quarter of 2025, Turkmenistan’s transit cargo volume reached 417,340 tons, and the number of transit aircraft landings exceeded 5,960, official media reported Tuesday.
A key milestone in this process was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on air transport between Turkmenistan and Luxembourg in April 2015. This allowed Europe’s largest cargo airline, Cargolux, to begin cargo flights between Luxembourg and Turkmenbashi.
The country’s modern airport construction project continues. After the opening of the international airport in Kerki, Lebap velayat, a new airport in Balkan velayat is in its final stages. These efforts are improving international passenger and cargo transport.
Turkmenistan is also actively developing international transport corridors, including Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) and Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye, boosting its global influence.
Preparations are underway for a project to modernize the wagon cleaning facility at the Turkmenbashi railway station in Balkan velayat.
