Indonesia blasts Israel’s plan to occupy Gaza, urges all nations to recognize Palestine as state

by WNAM:

WNAM MONITORING: Indonesia on Friday condemned Israel’s planned military takeover of the Gaza Strip and called on all nations to recognize the State of Palestine.

The move “gravely” violates international law and the UN Charter and has worsened both the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and prospects for peace in the region, the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said on its X account.

“As emphasized by the ICJ, Israel’s occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territory is illegal and Israel does not have any sovereignty of the Occupied Territory, thus, any actions taken by Israel cannot change the legal status of the Palestinian territory,” the statement said.

Jakarta urged the UN Security Council and the international community to take “concrete steps” to stop Israel’s illegal actions. It also reiterated its support for a fully independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.

The comments came after the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the army will prepare to occupy Gaza City. Satellite images showed Israeli forces massing troops and equipment near the Gaza border, signaling a possible new ground invasion.

Israeli ground operations in Gaza have continued since October 2023, with brief pauses during two ceasefires.

The Israeli Security Cabinet recently approved five principles for concluding the war: dismantling the Palestinian group Hamas, securing the return of hostages, demilitarizing Gaza, maintaining Israeli security control, and installing a civilian administration not led by Hamas or the Palestinian Authority.

Despite international pressure, Israel has pushed ahead with its military campaign, which has killed more than 61,200 Palestinians since October 2023 and left the territory facing famine and mass displacement.
