WNAM MONITORING: Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement to resume direct air service between the two countries. A protocol on cooperation in the field of civil aviation was signed by Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov and the head of Turkmenistan’s State Civil Aviation Service, Dowran Saburov, during a trilateral meeting in the “Azerbaijan–Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan” format held on Tuesday in Avaza, Gazeta.uz reported on Sunday.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the trilateral summit on August 22 in the Avaza tourist zone, which brought together President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
According to Ilkhom Makhkamov, the agreement paves the way for the launch of direct flights in the near future.
Turkmenistan is also considering the resumption of direct air service between Ashgabat and Almaty as early as 2025.
