WNAM Monitoring: The book “Chronicle of Samarkand” was presented at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing.
The event was attended by representatives of Chinese academic circles, heads of travel companies, and leading media outlets of China and compatriots living in this country.
The book, prepared by a group of Uzbek scientists, was published by New Star Press Co. Ltd. in Chinese with the support of the Chinese Administration for Publication and Distribution of Literature in Foreign Languages.
The book is dedicated to the history of the ancient city of Samarkand, known worldwide as the pearl of the Great Silk Road. It describes the history of the city in chronological order from its origins to the present day. The book also reveals the historical connection between Samarkand and China and the city’s role on the Great Silk Road.
It was noted that Samarkand, as the world-famous pearl of the Great Silk Road, is a monument to this legendary road’s glorious past, which contributed to the exchange of goods, technologies, ideas, and cultural values between Asia and Europe. Today, Samarkand is a venue for major internationally significant events. In September 2022, a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held here.
Vice President of the Chinese Administration for Publication and Distribution of Literature in Foreign Languages Yu Tao noted that Samarkand is the second largest city in Uzbekistan and one of the nodes on the ancient Silk Road.
“As the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in the preface to the “Chronicle of Samarkand”, this is an ancient and young city, an oasis with a unique oriental fairy tale, colorful, with ancient and magnificent historical sights, and one of the cradles of world civilization”, he noted. “I believe that the “Chronicle of Samarkand” will become an important means of cultural exchange between the two countries. With the publication of this book in China, more and more people will come here to learn more about this city and fall in love with it”.
