Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING): State-run fertilizer producer PT Pupuk Indonesia has been able to maintain supply stability amid global turmoil, Presidential Special Envoy for Energy and Environment Hashim Djojohadikusumo said.

“While many countries are facing supply disruptions, Indonesia is in a relatively safe position,” Hashim said in his statement, Saturday.

According to him, several countries are even looking to Indonesia to meet their fertilizer needs.

“Many of our neighboring countries are requesting it,” Hashim said.

Among those countries, he mentioned Australia’s plan to import 250,000 tons of urea from Indonesia.

Demand for Indonesian fertilizer has also come from India, which reportedly needs up to 500,000 tons, he added.

“This shows that Indonesia is quite fortunate in terms of urea,” Hashim noted.

President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia Rahmad Pribadi said that amid global disruptions to energy and fertilizer flows due to conflicts in the Middle East, Indonesia has taken on a strategic role as a stabilizer of regional fertilizer supplies.

He said this is closely linked to the government’s role in implementing appropriate strategies to support the fertilizer industry.

Rahmad emphasized that the government has adopted the right approach, as fertilizer is a critical agricultural input.

“Without fertilizer, we cannot talk about agricultural productivity,” he said.

This strategy, he continued, is reflected in government policy through Presidential Regulation No. 6 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Subsidized Fertilizer, which was later updated to Presidential Regulation No. 113 of 2025.

This policy also emphasizes the importance of ensuring the availability and affordability of fertilizer for farmers.

Rahmad stressed that the availability and affordability of fertilizer must be guaranteed, as it has a systemic impact on food security.

“Speaking of availability, this not only ensures our factories can operate, but also ensures that fertilizer reaches farmers in accordance with the 7 Right Principles,” he added, referring to expanded framework designed to improve nutrient use efficiency, increase profitability and reduce environmental impact in fertilizer management.
