ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT): Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, met Ms. Coco Ushiyama, Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), at BISP Headquarters today. The meeting focused on measures to improve the health and nutrition of women beneficiaries of BISP and their children.
On this occasion, Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized strengthening interventions under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme to improve maternal and child health, highlighting the importance of immunization and enhancing awareness campaigns in this regard. She stated that making immunization certificates mandatory for BISP registration is a significant step toward ensuring better health outcomes for children. She further stressed the need to raise awareness among mothers about the nutritional value of locally available household food and its proper use to support children’s physical and cognitive development.
Ms. Coco Ushiyama expressed her commitment to working closely with the BISP team on the effective planning and implementation of future initiatives related to maternal and child health. She also reaffirmed WFP’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with BISP.
The meeting also reviewed proposals to expand the outreach of the Benazir Nashonuma Programme, enhance access for deserving women, and improve service delivery through modern digital systems. Both sides agreed on the importance of learning from successful international models and adapting them to the Pakistani context.
Dr. Asim Ejaz, Director General NSER/CCT, was also present on the occasion.
