Saudi Arabia highlighted its expanding support for vulnerable people globally on World Refugee Day, with the Kingdom’s assistance reaching $23.761 billion as humanitarian programs continue across dozens of countries.
The latest effort came in the Gaza Strip, where the Kingdom’s aid agency KSrelief established a new camp on Saturday for displaced families north of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The camp is intended to provide safe shelter for families who have lost their homes amid the ongoing crisis. And responds to growing needs in displacement areas across southern Gaza, where thousands of people are living in temporary settlements with limited access to basic services.
The Gaza initiative forms part of a broader Saudi humanitarian effort aimed at assisting refugees and displaced people within the Kingdom and abroad.
Marking World Refugee Day, observed annually on June 20, KSrelief said Saudi Arabia continues to be among the planet’s leading humanitarian donors, supporting vulnerable communities across multiple regions
The Kingdom has also devoted significant resources to refugees residing within its borders by providing free healthcare and education, facilitating employment opportunities and promoting social integration.
Assistance provided to refugees from Yemen, Syria, the Rohingya minority and Sudan reached $20.430 billion as of 2026. Refugees account for approximately 5.5 percent of Saudi Arabia’s population, according to KSrelief.
Global humanitarian programs
Since its establishment in 2015, KSrelief has implemented 4,394 projects in 113 countries worth over $8.482 billion.
Its programs include establishing camps for displaced people, operating mobile medical clinics, distributing food and shelter assistance, and carrying out water, sanitation and health projects.
KSrelief said these efforts reflect Saudi Arabia’s commitment to extending assistance to vulnerable populations and helping communities affected by displacement, conflict and natural disasters.
World Refugee Day in Jordan
As part of World Refugee Day activities, the Saudi Community Service Center, affiliated with KSrelief, organized a series of educational and vocational events at Jordan’s Zaatari refugee camp, home to thousands of Syrian refugees.
The education program included a silent play portraying the hardships faced by refugees in displacement camps, poetry recitals expressing hopes for a better future, and a puppet show highlighting the aspirations of children.
Training activities focused on resilience and self-reliance. Workshops organized by sewing, arts and embroidery departments demonstrated how fabrics and plastic bags could be recycled into useful products.
Also, a cooking workshop showcased the traditional preparation of tannour bread and highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
