ISLAMABAD: At least 15 security personnel embraced martyrdom while 12 militants belonging to the Indian-sponsored group Fitna Al Khawarij were killed after security forces foiled a terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack took place during the night between July 23 and 24 when militants attempted to storm a joint police checkpost in Tank.
The attackers initially tried to breach the checkpost’s security but were met with a swift and resolute response from security forces. Troops engaged the fleeing militants with precision, killing 12 of them during the retaliatory operation.
In a final act of desperation, the assailants rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the checkpost, causing a massive explosion that severely damaged the infrastructure.
The ISPR said 15 personnel, including 12 military soldiers, two police officers and a former forest department government official, embraced martyrdom while defending the post and thwarting the terrorist attack.
A sanitisation operation is currently underway to eliminate any remaining militants in the area.
The military’s media wing said Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue the counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eradicate foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
