Russian Ambassador Pledges to Increase Scholarships for Pakistani Youth

WNAM REPORT: Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert P. Khorve has pledged to increase scholarships for Pakistani youth, saying that Pakistani students proficient in the Russian language can benefit from expanded opportunities for higher education, research, training and employment in Russia. He said educational cooperation between Pakistan and Russia could play a key role in further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries.
He was addressing the certificate distribution ceremony of the Russian Language Course at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). Appreciating the university’s initiative to promote the Russian language, the Russian Ambassador said that the promotion of languages is an effective means of bringing the peoples, educational institutions and cultures of the two countries closer. He said proficiency in the Russian language could play an important role in connecting Pakistani youth with educational and research institutions in Russia.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) said that the AIOU is playing its role in further strengthening Pakistan-Russia friendly relations through the promotion of the Russian language and culture. Congratulating the students who completed the Russian language course, he said that these young people could serve as educational and cultural ambassadors between the two countries and further promote bilateral ties.
He said that the Open University is providing its students with opportunities to learn international languages, thereby connecting them with new opportunities in education, research and employment at the international level. In addition to Russian, courses in Turkish and Japanese are also part of the university’s vision. He said the university’s objective is not merely to limit young people to obtaining degrees but also to prepare them in accordance with global educational and professional requirements.
Registrar Raja Umer Younis said that the graduation ceremony of the ninth and tenth batches of the three-month course offered by the Russian Language Centre established at the university was being held while classes for the eleventh and twelfth batches would also commence soon.
Director International Collaboration and Exchange Dr. Zahid Majeed said that the Open University is actively working to promote cooperation with Russian educational institutions as well as the Russian language, literature and culture. He said that several graduates of the Russian Language Centre had secured Russian scholarships last year while the university is making efforts to create further opportunities for Pakistani students to pursue higher education and obtain scholarships in Russia.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, certificates were distributed among the students who successfully completed the Russian language course.
