The defeat of son of Maulana Fazlur Rehman in NA 43 Tank after a recount of votes the other day is not unexpected and should not surprise anybody. This constituency has a majority population of Kundis to which Dawar Khan Kundi belonged who has defeated him.The politics of Tank and Kulachi in DIK Division is dominated by either the Gandapurs or Kundis and if one looks at the history of polls in this area one could see that no outsider could win the elections in these clan- dominated areas if he didn’t have the support of rank and file Gandapurs and Kundis .

The recent statement of Prime minister-designate Mr Omar Ayub that his party didn’t believe in parochialism, regionalism or provincialism is very encouraging. What a pity that even after a lapse of seven decades since the creation of Pakistan we are still beset with evils like parochialism, regionalism, communalism, linguistic jingoism and religious fanaticism and this division has cost us dearly If we still fail to learn lesson from the break up of this country in 1971 and say good-bye to these evils then God be with us.

Time has certainly come when Pakistani nationalism should be the order of the day.

The JUI leader Maulana Ghafoor Haideri has hit the right nail in the head by saying that even the big national level political parties winning the elections don’t consider themselves fit and able enough to solve the myriad problems being faced by the country and that is why they are hesitant to enter the corridors of power and are delaying the formation of the government on one pretext or the other.

The political temperature has not dropped even after ten days of the election and intense political lobbying is being done by those desirous to enter the portals of power. With so many persons winning as independent candidates around , the possibility of horse trading raising its ugly head once again cannot be ruled out in altogether .
