BUKIT MERTAJAM ( WNAM MONITORING): The remains of Idrus Ibrahim, the elder brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, were laid to rest at the Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Muslim Cemetery.
The funeral was attended by hundreds of family members, relatives, friends and political leaders from various parties.
Earlier, the remains were taken from the family home to the temporary prayer hall at Cheruk Tok Kun Bawah Jamek Mosque on Jalan Kolam.
The funeral prayers, held after Friday prayers, were led by Penang Mufti Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Sukki Othman. The remains were then taken to the cemetery and buried.
Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah paid their respects to the late Idrus at the family home at 11.15 am.
Also present to pay their last respects were Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid; Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister and Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim; and political leaders from various parties.
