It is unfortunate that most of our parliamentarians whether they sit in the NA ,PAs or Senate, still use provocative and abusive language against one another which, more often than not, borders on indecency also .They should take lesson from the following anecdote. During the second world war Hitler in his speeches used derogatory language almost daily against England’s prime minister Sir Winston Churchill .Churchill seldom replied .One day when a newsman asked Churchill as to why didn’t he reply to Hitler’s abusive language against him he uttered the following words which were hundred times weighty than Hitler’s all accusations and amounted to a befitting reply to him He said It seems Hitler didn’t have good primary education.
It is unfortunate that most of our parliamentarians still indulge in fisticuffs on the floor of the assemblies and by doing so prove the famous dictum of FM Ayub Khan right that parliamentary democracy doesn’t suit the genius of the people of this country. Ayub Khan had uttered these famous words when in 1950s our parliamentarians changed as many as seven prime ministers in equal number of years on which the then Indian prime minister Nehru had also sardonically remarked that he doesn’t change so many dhotis in one year as Pakistan changes its prime minister.isnt it true that in 1950s due to a scuffle among the assembly members and speaker of an assembly in this country the skull of its deputy speaker was broken also which had ultimately led to martial law in the country in 1958?
A lot of water has since then crossed under theAttock bridge but our parliamentarians haven’t yet taken any lesson and they still treat sacred place like the floor of the assembly as fish market .
Tolerance is sadly missing in our parliamentarians.Their negative attitude is rubbing off on their party workers,to boot.In these conditions one cannot forsee any bright future for parliamentary democracy in this country.
