One can change ones friends but cannot change neighbors, so says an age old adage. Iran and Afghanistan are our old neighbors.
We have to learn to live with them whether one likes it or not. They are just like necessary evils. Afghanistan,in particular, has not, however, reciprocated to our friendship to the full and more often than not played second fiddle to our arch enemy, India by providing a sanctuary to many terrorists who have been playing havoc with our law and order.
A strong need is being felt to tighten control of all types of traffic into Pakistan from both Iran and Afghanistan Although a border management system does exist on our borders with these neighbors but it hasn’t been strong enough to control the free access into Pakistan of terrorists from the other side of our borders of these two neighbors. There is a need to revisit it and make it foolproof.
Kabul needs to be told in unambiguous terms that if failed to tighten measures against the terrorists present on its soul, we will be left with no option but to withdraw the transit facility to its traders to use Pakistan’s soil for trade with India.
