WNAM MONITORING: Ridwan Kamil, the curator of the new capital city Nusantara (IKN), announced that the core area, comparable in size to Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas), is expected to be completed by August.
“When we say ‘completed,’ we refer to the presidential palace and surrounding buildings. It’s important not to misunderstand; while the core area will be ready, the entire development will take decades,” the former West Java Governor said on Friday.
He encouraged the public to visit the site to witness the development firsthand. “Consuming news alone is different from seeing it for yourself. That’s why we say, ‘seeing is believing,’” he added.
Kamil noted that the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry is currently working on connecting the water supply from a nearby lake. He explained that supplying water to the core area will take time, estimating completion within a month. “The water is already in the lake, but the piping system needs time,” he explained.
Regarding preparations for Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, Kamil mentioned that the event will be spectacular, marking a historic moment as Jakarta transitions away from being the capital. However, construction will halt on August 10 to support the celebrations.
“This is primarily for security. The flag-raising team needs to practice their formations, and ongoing construction could disrupt the ceremony’s flow,” he clarified.
Kamil emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth ceremony on August 17, wishing for a successful and historic event.
