Once again terrorism has raised its ugly head in the country. Not a day goes by when our valiant soldiers don’t get martyrdom in the defense of the country. The worst affected areas are, of course, the border districts of KPK and Balochistan where mercenaries can operate with much ease from across the neighboring Afghanistan which has failed miserably to clip their wings.
Small wonder Waziristan Lakki and some districts of Balochistan have become hotbeds of terrorism. The pity is that we have loaded a single person with the responsibility to look after home affairs as well as cricket both of which are whole time jobs. Small wonder he is cutting a sorry figure on both the counts. The performance of the foreign office too is not up to the mark, to say the least. What to speak of other serious cross border issues it has not been able to enforce even a workable border management system with Kabul with the result that every third day there is a rumpus at Torkhan holding up road traffic for hours. The interior ministry too has not been able to work out a mechanism under which no Afghan could enter this country without a valid visa. At the moment there is no system in place under which the government could know whether those Afghanis who enter Pakistan on our visa have gone back home after the expiry of their visa. Small wonder one finds Afghanis settled in almost every nook and cranny of this country.
