( WNAM MONITORING): Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, opened for public visits on Monday.
In the morning, several people registered through the IKnow application to visit the city. They gathered at the rest area in Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara District.
The visitors appeared enthusiastic about exploring Indonesia’s new capital. They included not only locals from East Kalimantan but also people from South Kalimantan and Jakarta.
Among the visitors were two foreign nationals: Valentine and Mary from Germany.
“I am happy to witness the development of Nusantara, the new capital city. Change marks Indonesia’s progress,” Valentine told ANTARA.
“We just graduated and took a vacation to Indonesia. We found information on the IKnow app that we could visit Nusantara. We registered and now can see the new capital firsthand. It’s wonderful,” Mary added.
Meanwhile, a visitor from Jakarta, Sri Murni, said, “I became curious about Nusantara after watching the Independence Day ceremony on August 17 on television.”
The Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) opened the new capital to the public on Monday. Visitors can explore the city from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they must register via the IKnow app. Entry is limited to 300 people per day.
Sri Murni, an academic at a university in Jakarta, said she had visited Nusantara in 2022. She noted significant changes in the city’s appearance since then.
