WNAM REPORT: On September 25, 2024, the Center for the Analysis of Democratic Processes hosted an international roundtable discussion in Tashkent on “Enhancing Democratic Processes: Modern Approaches and International Experience”.
The event featured an in-depth analysis of key developments in Uzbekistan, including constitutional reforms, strengthening the democracy, advancing the new electoral system, fostering political competition, supporting the activities of non-governmental non-profit organizations, and ensuring freedom of the media.
Participants included representatives from the Central Election Commission, members of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, deputies of the Legislative Chamber, Political Parties, the Institute of Legislative and Legal Policy, the National Association of Uzbekistan’s Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations, the “Yuksalish” movement, the Development Strategy Center, NGOs, and media representatives.
International experts and renowned specialists from countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Pakistan, and Russia participated with their presentations.
During the roundtable, participants highlighted that over the past 7-8 years, Uzbekistan has made irreversible strides in democratic reforms. The discussions underscored the importance of the country’s human-centric policy in building the New Uzbekistan, emphasizing constitutional reforms based on social governance, gender equality, the protection of women’s and children’s rights, the expansion of women’s participation in public administration, and efforts to enhance government accountability and transparency.
Participants also discussed significant initiatives proposed by the President of Uzbekistan in recent years at the highest political platforms in the world, as well as at major international events and meetings, which have garnered global recognition.
Moreover, the presentations highlighted that the renewed Constitution of Uzbekistan and the reformed electoral system reflect the country’s commitment to prioritizing human dignity and welfare while increasing public participation and activism in governance.
The conference, rich in insightful debates, served as an essential platform for exchanging ideas and developing practical proposals to accelerate democratic processes in Uzbekistan. Notably, it provided an opportunity to study international experiences and apply them to national practices.
According to the Center for Analysis of Democratic Processes, the productive dialogue between local and foreign experts during the roundtable is expected to yield valuable suggestions and recommendations, contributing to the deepening and enhancement of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.
