WNAM REPORT: Jeju Gov. Oh Young-hun met with Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho on Oct. 8 and pledged to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, labor and education between the two.
The meeting, which took place at the governor’s office, was arranged on the occasion of the Vietnamese ambassador’s visit to Jeju Province since his appointment in April.
Governor Oh and Ambassador Ho agreed on the importance of establishing direct flights between Jeju and Vietnam and discussed various measures for collaboration.
“As of this month, there are 10 irregular flights per month between Jeju and Vietnam, but to enhance practical cooperation, regular flights need to be increased,” Oh said.
In response, Ambassador Ho expressed great potential in trade, tourism and business with Korea, and hoped for more active exchanges with Jeju.
The two sides also discussed exporting Jeju’s agricultural and marine products, such as flatfish, and further cooperation in the labor sector.
Jeju Province established a sister city relationship with Kien Giang Province in Vietnam in May 2008, as well as a practical exchange city relationship with Da Nang City in August 2023, continuing cooperation in tourism, culture, agriculture and fisheries.
In August of this year, a tripartite agreement was signed in Da Nang, Vietnam, to promote the export of Jeju marine products to the Southeast Asian country.
