WNAM MONITORING: On Tuesday, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr Palace in Islamabad, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan Alisher Tukhtayev presented his credentials to the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
At the meeting, which took place after the official ceremony, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between the two countries. President Zardari emphasized the importance of cultural, historical, and spiritual ties, which are a solid foundation for long-term fraternal relations.
The President of Pakistan highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s economic growth and confirmed his readiness to promote the development of bilateral relations, especially in trade, investment, and industrial cooperation. The parties noted the significant potential for increasing the volume of mutual trade to $1 billion.
The issues of intensifying cultural, humanitarian, and tourist exchanges were also discussed. The Leader of Pakistan expressed satisfaction with simplifying the visa regime so that his country’s citizens could visit Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that direct flights between the cities of Tashkent and Lahore, the restoration of which is planned for November this year, will give a new impetus to increasing the flow of tourists and strengthening cultural ties between the two countries.
Following the meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari wished Alisher Tukhtayev success in his responsible work to strengthen bilateral relations.
