WNAM MONITORING: Afghanistan launched the practical phase of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project, announced Zabihullah Mujahid, a representative of Afghanistan.
Ariana News reported on Tuesday that the necessary technical equipment arrived in the border area between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and work has already commenced.
Mujahid added that dozens of specialists are involved in various stages of the project, with the first phase of construction expected to finish within two years.
The representative of Afghanistan also noted that work on other important energy projects, including CASA-1000, will begin soon.
Economists believe that the completion of the TAPI project will significantly impact the region’s economy by creating thousands of jobs and providing Afghanistan with an annual income of one billion dollars. Officials estimate that the project will generate 12,000 jobs in Afghanistan.
The TAPI pipeline, stretching 1,821 kilometers, will transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, becoming a vital infrastructure project for the entire region.
