WNAM MONITORING: In the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year, which began March 21, 2024, exports through the Sarakhs railway station at the Turkmenistan border increased 6% compared to the same period last year, the IRNA agency reported, citing Mustafa Nasiri, head of the Khorasan railway.
The volume of international freight transport through the station, including exports, imports, and transit, reached 2.2 million tons. Exports accounted for over 840,000 tons, primarily cement and metal products. Of that amount, 810,000 tons originated from Khorasan Razavi Province. A significant portion of the cargo reached Turkmenistan using Iranian railcars.
Imports through the station also showed significant growth, rising 37% to 61,000 tons. Key imported goods included cotton and agricultural products.
Last year, exports through Sarakhs totaled 1.035 million tons.
The Sarakhs railway station serves as a major transport hub in the city of Sarakhs, on the border of Turkmenistan and Iran. It plays an essential role in international rail communication, connecting Central Asia with the Middle East.
