Jakarta (WNAM MONITORING): Indonesia is targeting five Middle Eastern countries—Iran, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt—as potential export destinations for Muslim fashion products.

“With the current market opportunities and developments in the Muslim fashion industry, we must be optimistic about maximizing domestic market share and increasing our competitiveness in the global market,” director general of small, medium, and miscellaneous industries at the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said here on Tuesday.

According to Yanita, opportunities for the development of the Muslim fashion industry are expected to grow rapidly in the next few years. This is in line with the development of the Islamic economic market globally.

The State of Global Islamic Economy 2023–2024 report released by the DinarStandard Institute states that Muslim consumer spending on six commodity sectors could reach US$3.1 trillion by 2027.

In the past five years, the spending value swelled 4.8 percent. It stood at US$2.29 trillion in 2022.

“The six commodities in the Islamic economic sector that are expected to grow rapidly are food, fashion, media and recreation, travel, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics,” Yanita noted.

She said that the Muslim fashion sector is in second place with consumption predicted to reach US$428 billion by 2027.

In 2025, the consumption of halal goods/services in Indonesia is projected to reach US$330.5 billion. Meanwhile, ready-to-wear products will rank second in terms of consumption in the Indonesian sharia market.

Therefore, to strengthen the capabilities of the domestic Muslim fashion industry, Yanita invited all business actors in the sector to develop their products and encouraged them to collaborate with the domestic ready-to-wear industry.

“Considering that the ready-to-wear industry workforce reaches 2.7 million workers with a total of 569 thousand industries—according to data from the 2022 Micro and Small Industry Profile and the 2022 Indonesian Manufacturing Industry Statistics—this will support the local modest fashion industry to become a master in its own home,” she said.
