WNAM Monitoring: A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday stressed that the Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair, which brooks no interference by any external force. Chen Binhua, a spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks, in response to the U.S. signing of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, which contains negative content related to the Taiwan region.
The spokesperson added that what the U.S. did blatantly makes irresponsible remarks on the Taiwan question, grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs, seriously violates the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. Joint Communiques, sends a seriously wrong signal to the “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, and seriously undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.
China expresses strong dissatisfaction with and firm opposition to this, Chen said. Chen went on to say that China urges the U.S. side to earnestly honor its solemn political commitment to China on the Taiwan question, translate its non-support for “Taiwan independence” into concrete actions, refrain from implementing the above-mentioned negative Taiwan-related content of the Act, immediately stop arming Taiwan, stop “destroying” and “harming” Taiwan, and stop interfering in Taiwan regional elections.
Noting that Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities have stepped up “relying on the U.S. to seek independence” and “seeking independence with arms,” Chen said the mainland tells the DPP authorities that “Taiwan independence” means war.
No matter how many weapons the DPP authorities obtain from the United States, it will not shake the mainland’s firm will to resolve the Taiwan question and complete national reunification, nor can it withstand the mainland’s strong ability to crush the attempt of “Taiwan independence” and safeguard national sovereignty, Chen added.
