WNAM REPORT: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar said Friday that the current position of the UK deepens the inequality between parties in Cyprus.
Tatar received UK Minister of State for Europe and North America Stephen Doughty and his accompanying delegation at the TRNC Presidential Office.
Tatar said at a news conference after the meeting that the UK has failed to demonstrate an approach that fully reflects the reality in Cyprus.
He emphasized that a two-state solution is the only fair and sustainable option for Cyprus.
Stating that the goal of Doughty’s visit was to learn the stance of the Turkish Cypriot side, especially before talks in Geneva, Tatar said, “As the Turkish Cypriot side, we will go to Geneva in a constructive way.”
Tatar noted that the isolation and embargoes imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people continue and pointed out that the support expected from the UK on the issue has never come.
Noting that the UK strengthened its relations with the Greek Cypriot Administration during Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Tatar said, “The UK’s current stance deepens the inequality between the parties in Cyprus. The UK’s policies have been approaches that have further increased the imbalance and inequality in Cyprus. The UK, which has responsibilities in Cyprus, is under the influence of the Greek Cypriot Administration.”
Doughty, who came to the TRNC after the Greek Cypriot Administration to make various contacts, did not make a statement after the meeting.
