ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ):Managing Director of Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), Senator Captain Shaheen Khalid Butt, emphasized the vital role of media in poverty alleviation and social welfare during a press briefing at the organization’s headquarters in Islamabad.
Senator Butt expressed his deep respect for journalists, acknowledging journalism as a sacred profession that requires responsible and patriotic individuals. He highlighted the significance of collective efforts from welfare organizations, politicians, philanthropists, the media, and professionals to address poverty-related challenges in Pakistan.
PBM, established in 1992, has emerged as Pakistan’s leading welfare organization, providing nationwide support for healthcare, education, and social protection. The organization assists patients with various health issues, funds surgeries for hearing-impaired children, and provides assistive devices to disabled individuals.
To support education, PBM pays tuition fees for deserving students and operates 162 Women Empowerment Centers, where nearly 300,000 women have received vocational training. The organization also runs 46 Sweet Homes, providing shelter and education to 4,172 orphaned children, and 160 schools, rescuing child laborers from hazardous work.
Under the “Orphan and Widow Support Program”, PBM provides financial assistance to impoverished families to ensure the education of orphaned children. The organization also operates 17 shelter homes and 33 mobile food trucks, distributing meals to homeless individuals.
PBM’s Ramazan 2025 initiative, “Mehman-e-Ramzan” (Host of Ramazan), has distributed over 1.77 million Iftar boxes to underprivileged individuals, ensuring food quality and dignity during distribution.
Senator Butt reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing social protection programs and announced plans to expand welfare initiatives, ensuring sustainable solutions to poverty. He urged media representatives to collaborate with PBM in spreading awareness about its welfare initiatives and mobilizing philanthropists and welfare organizations to contribute to the noble cause.
