WNAM REPORT: Turkmenistan is actively involved in the implementation of international transport corridors, including the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) and Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey routes. These projects contribute to strengthening the country’s authority on the world stage as an important transport and logistics center of regional and continental importance.
At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions aimed at developing transport and transit corridors, including “The role of transport and transit corridors in ensuring international cooperation for sustainable development” and “Strengthening the links between all modes of transport to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.”
In 2014, Turkmenistan hosted the High-Level International Conference on International Cooperation in Sustainable Transport, which resulted in the adoption of the Ashgabat Declaration. In 2016, the country also hosted the first Global Conference on Sustainable Transport.
