WNAM REPORT: French President Emmanuel Macron stated that he has agreed with his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto to enhance bilateral relations through collaboration on major projects.
“We have decided to strengthen the relations between our countries through ambitious and future-orientated projects,” Macron noted in his written statement on social media platform X on Friday.
Macron said the historical framework that the two countries prepared will “materialize during my state visit to Indonesia at the end of May of 2025.”
The French president stated that Indonesia and France shared the same determination to strengthen cooperation in priority sectors, such as defense, economy, science, culture, and academic exchanges.
France and Europe are keen to develop the economy of the future with Indonesia by creating a resilient value chain, particularly in critical minerals, and supporting energy transition.
He also reiterated the two countries’ commitment to promoting world peace and the cessation of conflicts in various parts of the world.
“We are determined to promote peace and security in the Middle East and end Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine,” Macron affirmed.
Additionally, Macron mentioned plans for Indonesia and France to collaborate on the conference on Gaza scheduled for next June.
“The future is developed through strong partnership, open trade, and common vision,” Macron concluded.
Last March, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot met his Indonesian counterpart Sugiono in Jakarta to discuss bilateral relations and preparations for Macron’s state visit to Indonesia in May.
Barrot said that apart from strengthening cooperation with Indonesia, France also envisioned the state visit to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and the European Union as Indonesia “is the headquarters of ASEAN, making its position central for ASEAN.”
