WNAM REPORT: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a visit to Japan, took part in the opening of the National Day of Turkmenistan at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
Turkmenistan was one of the first countries among nearly 160 participating countries to be honoured to host its National Day at this prestigious international event.
The ceremony began with the head of state’s visit to the building for receiving high-ranking guests of EXPO 2025, where he left a memorable entry in the Book of Honored Guests. Together with Japan’s Minister for the World Expo Ito Yoshitaka, the head of Turkmenistan took part in the official ceremony, delivered a speech and cut the festive ribbon of the national pavilion.
The Turkmen pavilion, the construction of which was entrusted to the economic society “Belli”, is a unique architectural structure with a deep symbolic meaning. The triangular shape of the building represents forward movement and the continuity of generations, and the domed part was created under the influence of traditional patterns of Turkmen carpets and harmonizes with the natural landscapes of the Karakum Desert.
The Turkmenistan pavilion is located in the thematic section “Expanding Life Opportunities” – one of the three main themes of EXPO 2025. Inside the three-story pavilion, visitors can see a 3D film about the history and nature of the country, exhibits from the city of Arkadag and industry departments, and try national dishes.
The current Expo 2025, which runs from April 13 to October 13, is being held on the specially created artificial island of Yumeshima (Dream Island) near Osaka. The exhibition area is surrounded by the “Great Ring” – a wooden structure 2 kilometers long and 20 meters high, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest enclosed wooden structure.
This is the third time Japan has hosted the World Expo in its 174-year history, and for Osaka this is the second time it has hosted an event of this scale, following the famous 1970 Expo, which had the highest number of visitors in the 20th century.
