ISLAMABAD ( WNAM REPORT ): Mr. Tri Tharyat, Deputy Minister for Multilateral Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, visited COMSTECH Secretariat on Thursday. He was warmly welcomed by COMSTECH senior officials.
In his welcome remarks, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH highlighted the special status of Indonesia as a founding member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and a valued partner of COMSTECH, playing a vital role in advancing science and technology in the Muslim world.
The meeting focused on expanding bilateral collaboration in several strategic areas. The Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH proposed cooperation in the healthcare sector, the establishment of an OIC Centre of Excellence, and a National Medical Regulatory Authority in Indonesia. He also suggested organizing an OIC Techno-Fest in Indonesia to promote technological exchange and innovation across OIC member states.
Discussions also included the continuation and expansion of the COMSTECH-Indonesia Virology Program, and the inclusion of Indonesian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), R&D institutions, and industry in key COMSTECH initiatives such as Research Fellowships, Technician Training Programs, and the Palestinian Scholarship Program. Both parties emphasized the importance of mutual visits by leaders of the pharmaceutical industry to enhance collaboration.
Ambassador Tri Tharyat appreciated COMSTECH’s ongoing contributions, particularly in the fields of science, technology, health, and higher education. He reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its role within the COMSTECH Consortium of Excellence (CCoE) and emphasized the country’s continued contribution to the socio-economic development of OIC member states. He also expressed intent to encourage greater participation of Indonesian universities and R&D organizations in COMSTECH programs.
This visit marked a significant step towards deepening scientific and technological cooperation between COMSTECH and Indonesia, paving the way for impactful joint initiatives in the OIC region.
