WNAM MONITORING: Countries of the European region of the World Customs Organization (WCO) have unanimously supported the proposal to grant the Training Center of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan the status of a Regional Training Center, as reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.

The initiative was presented at the conference of customs service heads from WCO member countries, held at the organization’s headquarters in Brussels. Turkmenistan was represented at the forum by a delegation led by Deputy Chairman of the Customs Service, Muhammed Muhammedov.

Kerim Ahmedov, a representative of the Turkmen delegation, delivered a report on the key issue of the agenda, detailing the technical capabilities of the modernized center, ongoing educational programs, and implemented digital solutions. Ahmedov noted that the center’s infrastructure meets international standards, and its strategic development plan was approved by the WCO Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB).

The initiative was also supported by Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, who thanked the delegates for their support. He emphasized that the regional center status would allow Turkmenistan to further contribute to the development of human resources and enhance trade and logistics connections between Asia and Europe.

The official recognition of the status is expected in June, with the signing of the corresponding Memorandum of Understanding between the organization and the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan planned for the annual WCO Council session.

The WCO, or World Customs Organization, is an international body that coordinates the activities of customs services worldwide. It is responsible for developing standards, facilitating trade, combating smuggling, and strengthening cooperation among countries in customs administration. The organization’s headquarters is located in Brussels, Belgium.
