Jakarta: Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga is encouraging women’s economic empowerment, citing it as one of the essential factors for advancing Indonesia.
“They, women entrepreneurs, have also shown that with passion, perseverance, hard work, and adaptability, accompanied by strong purposes, one can create not only prosperity but also a positive and sustainable social and economic impact,” she said in a statement released by her ministry here on Tuesday.
According to her, women’s entrepreneurship is an entry point and evidence of the determination of women who dare to take risks, seize opportunities, and develop successful businesses.
Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), there are 65 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia.
As many as 64 million of those 65 million MSMEs are micro-enterprises. Further, 60 percent of those micro-enterprises are managed by women.
The minister said that the Bali Great Sale 2023, which is being held from December 15, 2023, to January 14, 2024, is an example of successful collaboration between the business sector and the government.
