Jakarta ( WNAM MONITORING ): The Ministry of Industry on Monday emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between local agricultural machinery manufacturers and research institutions to help Indonesia develop more efficient and innovative products.
Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment, and Electronics Industry, Setia Darta stated that enhancing the capacity of local industries to generate innovations will support the country’s agricultural mechanization efforts.
“To support agricultural mechanization—which is a backbone of national food security—we are committed to boosting the growth of local agricultural machinery manufacturers,” he said.
To this end, the ministry has drafted a long-term strategy to make local manufacturers more productive, innovative, competitive, and sustainable.
This includes integrating national industrial development, the Making Indonesia 4.0 policies, to support transformation in the manufacturing sector.
Incentives will also be provided to manufacturers that maintain active research and development units and regularly produce new innovations.
“With strong collaboration among stakeholders and supportive government policies, we believe Indonesia’s agricultural machinery sector can grow sustainably and significantly enhance national agricultural productivity,” he said.
Currently, Indonesia has 67 agricultural machinery manufacturers employing a total of 5,629 workers.
These companies produce a variety of equipment such as two-wheel tractors, land processing machines, hand sprayers, and rotavators.
Some of these products are already being exported to international markets, with export values reaching USD 90 million in 2024, Darta added.
